Welcome Back
Ok, a year drought to update is unacceptable. This week we will have new posts and video from Harper's first on-stage performance. STAY TUNED!

Blizzard 2010
Yes, it takes a blizzard and being stuck in our house to motivate us to update the blog. Our apologies for not doing this sooner. We do not lack fun and exciting happenings to report, just the time to report them.
Harper will be one year old next Wednesday, February 10th! He has accomplished a lot in last 12 months and reflecting on how far he has come makes us very excited about the road that lays ahead of us. Harper can now feed himself (with his hands), he can pick up a spoon and toss it across the room from his high chair, he can drink from a cup, he can put 10 goldfish in his mouth at one time, he can "cruise" holding onto furniture, he can play ball with us, he can say "Heeeee", he can clap his hands and he can hand things to you if you ask for them.
Harper loves cars, trucks or anything with wheels. He also likes books and pointing at things. He loves applesauce and sweet potato fries and cheerios accidently dropped on the ground. He is ticklish on his tummy and under his chin and when he laughs you can see his seven teeth.
"Cheeks", as we call him, recently completed a swim class and seems to really love the water. Frank takes him to music class now and they are both really enjoying it. Harper sways to the music and has started using the instruments that they hand out. The teacher says that he is very attentive and thanked Frank once for being the "rock" of the class (the other kids go beserk throughout the class and Harper is the only one that sits there).
Frank and I are growing as well, learning how to handle this parenting thing. We're very excited that we now have a niece and nephew! It's going to be tough to be "Cool Uncle Frank" and "Wicked Cool Aunt Dyani" from soo far away but we'll give it our best shot.

Master Harper Meets Mr. Dryer
Harper now is scooting around,cruising as well and we think he will be walking soon! Also as you see here, he is keenly aware of his surroundings including the washer dryer!

Raising the Bar by Lowering It.
Good thing we put the mattress down farther in the crib today. The nearly 8 month old went from sitting to standing. After we put Harper down for the night or so we thought, we heard him crying more than normal. When we got into his room, there he was..standing up,holding onto the crib railing!

Grandpa Checks In

I went to the 14th and T post office about 45 minutes ago, and thought Harper might not cooperate because he seemed to be getting sleepy and antsy as I was pushing him over in the stroller. I took him out of the stroller in the Post Office and held him as I went up to the window. As the woman behind the window began oohing and ahhing about Harper (look at those checks! look at those legs! hello, handsome), Harper began drumming on the window and on the counter and chattering away. And smiled a big smile. The woman said, "look, he's flirting with me. Hello, hello." And I swear, Harper said something like "hi" back to her. And she said hello twice more and Harper again said something like "hi" both times. And then he chattered a lot more and the woman kept talking to him. Meanwhile, there were a few people in line, but fortunately another clerk opened up a third window.
Harper also discovered on the way back that he can take off his hat and chew on it.

Big Boy Shoes
Since the fall weather is beginning to creep in, we thought it was time to start putting shoes on our little guy. So, this morning I took him to Stride Rite for his first shopping trip. Not surprisingly, Harper's feet are too big (he's a size four) and too wide (he's a double wide) for the prewalker shoes so we had to go up one level.
Harper's first pair of big boy shoes are brown leather and sport two super cool velcro straps on either shoe :o). The soles aren't as flexible as the prewalker shoes but I think he'll manage. As you can see, he's ready to go!
